On 25 November 2014, a discarded cigarette on the balcony of Apartment 805 on Level 8 of the Lacrosse apartment building caused rapid external fire spread via parts of the combustible external wall cladding. The fire not only had an impact on the external façade, however also migrated to the internal parts of the building resulting in the need for mass evacuation of hundreds of occupants situated within the building.
