Quill City Mall

The building

The Quill City Retail Mall complex is located at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The building comprises eight (8) storeys of shopping, 320 stores, dining and entertainment with a net retail area of approximately 71,500m². The building design incorporates multiple atriums and a large skylight to provide natural lighting to the interior during the day. The design of the mall creates a statement along Jalan Sultan Ismail. It has the longest frontage facade, 300 metres in length, providing maximum visibility and strong brand presence for retailers along one of Kuala Lumpur’s busiest streets. The Quill City Retail Mall features the first sky alfresco dining experience in Malaysia with views of the surrounding cityscape.

The approach

Scientific Fire Services undertook a holistic performance based assessment of the eight (8) storey retail complex with respect to occupant life safety. The quantitative life safety analysis was conducted by the use of comprehensive three dimensional fire and smoke modelling (CFD) and emergency evacuation simulation modelling (Pathfinder).
